Our Story

Thunder Adaptive Sports was  founded by a dad who heard "no" one too many times when seeking  a place for his daughter to play. What started as a father's mission to prove that kids like his  can has become a growing nonprofit. That provides adaptive sports opportunities for youth and adults with physical disablilities.

Our Mission

To empower individuals with physical disabilities through sports and create an inclusive community where ablitiy is not defined by a diagnosis.

FAQs

Who can participate in your programs?

Any youth or adult with a physical disability and/or permanent medical diagnosis that limits their ability to participate in traditional sports is encouraged to join us. Whether your passion is track, cycling, sled hockey, or another adaptive sport, we welcome athletes of all experience levels to be part of our community.

What sports do you offer?

We currently offer Sled Hockey, Adaptive Cycling, and Track & Field programs. If you’re interested in a different adaptive sport, reach out to us we’re happy to connect you with other organizations or coaches who can help you get involved.

Are there any fees?

All of our programs offer a no-commitment, entry-level, and fully recreational environment. There is no cost to participate at the recreational level  just show up, have fun, and be active!

For athletes participating at the travel level, additional guidelines apply to help ensure fairness and sustainability:
  • Equipment Grants: Travel-level athletes must apply for a Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) grant to help with adaptive equipment costs.
  • Hotel Assistance: Players who attend at least 50% of scheduled practices and 66% of travel games are eligible to have 50% of their hotel expenses covered by the organization.
These policies help us continue offering high-quality programs and opportunities for every athlete to grow at their own pace.
